Interview with Anouc - trito

At ESWC Master I was filming a lot if interviews and of course I made an interview with the most awesome girl at the event: Anouc. Not only is Anouc playing Quake for girlz 0f destruction, she is also a pro CounterStrike player in the clan Badgirlsclan. In the interview she talks about the teams preparations for ESWC and about her expectations for QuakeLive. Enjoy:

Quake Live - trito

Last months I’ve heard a lot of gamers talking about the upcoming game Quake Live. I was happy some days ago when I received an invitation to test the beta. I tried it for the first time yesterday and I must say I really like the idea.

Quake Live is pretty much like Quake 3 (one of the best games ever), but you play it in your browser and it’s free. I’m pretty amazed a complex game like Quake 3 can run that good in your browser.

I think Quake Live is really promising and I think it will attract many users once it’s released.

DreamHack is over - trito

The four last days I´ve been at DreamHack that takes place in Jönköping, Sweden. DreamHack is the biggest LAN in the world and they arrange a lot of tournaments. This time they had cs, dota and wc3 among other competitions. For me Quake Forever was the most interesting one. In Quake Forever they held tournaments in QuakeWorld and Quake 2, but also the ESWC qualifier in Quake 3. Because of all the quake competitions a lot of quake gamers were attending the event and it´s always nice to see friends you haven´t seen for a while.

I competed in the Quake 3 ESWC qualifier. When I go to a tournament I´m often quite well prepared, but this time I didn´t practice that much, I was more in it for the fun. Fun it was and I managed to pass the group stage. In the quarter finals I got knocked out by Spartie who is one of the top players in Sweden.

I also had a BYOC spot, but I only used it for 15 minutes in total. I was busy with playing the competition and later on watching all the interesting games. I did also bring my camera and I filmed quite a lot of interviews that will be up somewhere on the web later on.

Since there really hasn´t been any tournaments for Quake in the last year I haven´t been to any competitions since WSVG Toronto in August 2007. I´ve only been to events like CES and CEBIT. Being at DreamHack, playing in the tournament really makes me want to play in more tournaments. It also makes me think about all the girlz in our team. We have had so much fun together through the years going to events and here at DreamHack I missed them a lot.

Hard to resist… - trito

It seems like I have hard to resist playing in tournaments. I wasn’t planning to play in the Swedish Quake 3 qualifier since I haven’t practices Quake 3 1v1 in years. But when I saw the registration was up I couldn’t resist to sign in. The best Swedish Quake 3 players will attend this tournament and I will aim to get some good games played and to have fun.

The Swedish ESWC qualifier takes place at DreamHack Summer in Jönköping, Sweden 14-17 June. You can find the attendee list for Quake 3 ESWC at esreality.

Back to the basic - trito

When I started playing Quake 3 many years ago I used to play Clan Arena a lot. In Clan Arena you have two teams, often 4 or 5 in each team. There are no armours, health bubbles or ammo on the map, but you get all the weapons from the start. The game is round based and one round ends when all people in one team are fraged. If you get fraged you won’t respawn until the next round. The team still standing in the end of the round gets one point.

cestrito200px.jpgWhen I was hooked on Clan Arena I used to play it 2-10 hours a day. I remember once I stayed on the same server, not disconnecting even once, from 6pm until 6am. After a while other game types started to take over though, like 1v1, tdm, ctf and later on I changed the game to Quake 4. I stopped playing Clan Arena.

But these two last weeks I’ve started playing Quake 3 Clan Arena again. I used to play OSP, but now it seems like most people are playing CPMA, so I’ve been switching mod. I’m playing public and if you wish to play some Clan Arena with me you are more than welcome to join. You will find me on the server “pbBaby”.

I’m out of the game- CHICKAMUNGUS

Last Friday, I was unusually super excited about playing DoA4. You see, I’ve never been very good at that game; to be honest, I totally sucked at that game. So I was always reluctant to join a room full of S and SS level players with my big E- clearly telling everyone that I was a HUGE NOOB! But not that day, I was ready to go kick some Kasumi and Ryu butt! I had been trained by my team mate, and awesome Kokoro player, Liefje the Great, and I had been punch-grabbing and punch-punch-grabbing my way from an E- to a B+ in less than 2 weeks!! I was on the roll!!

So I pop in my DoA4 disk, and pick my primary character, Christie (suggested by Liefje), and joined a room full of B+ level players. I easily took down the first player who thought he had me with Kasumi, by 3-1! As I was fighting my second match with against a Brad Wong player, and something weird began to happen to my screen. The color of the characters started going bad. Brad Wong’s tattered grey shirt started to look an awful dark green, and the entire screen began to get darker and darker until the screen went black! I couldn’t believe it! My Xbox couldn’t be failing me now! Not for the fourth time! Not when I was training for an upcoming local DoA4 tournament! Noooooo!!!!

broken 360

So I figured, this could be fixed. I’ll just remove all the cords from the back, and let everything rest for a few hours. But when I came back and replugged everything, it happened again! So then I figured, maybe it’s the game, so I popped in Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and it happened AGAIN!! So THEN I figured, maybe it’s the cords, so I switched the cords out with a friend of mine, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!! It was true, my Xbox had breathe it’s last breath for the fourth time since I bought the 360 on launch day in ‘05!

I was immediately furious that Microsoft would keep sending me this shabby piece of machinery! And worst of all, the Xbox repairs people are charging me $99 to get it fixed!! So that puts my Xbox 360 tab to $500 since I bought it for $400 on launch day! And do I think it’s worth it, NO! Why should I have to pay for Microsoft’s mistake and faulty piece of equipment? I wouldn’t spend $400 on anything unless I was planning on keeping it forever, meaning I would take care of it like it should be taken care of and make sure it wouldn’t break. Nevertheless, I have to be subjected to the carelessness of a company that I trusted to invest $400 in, just to get screwed over and robbed for more money!!

As much as I love Halo and XBL and all of my Xbox friends, I’m never spending my money on any other console that Microsoft creates! So once I get enough money, I’m buying myself a PS3. Most game are multiplatform these days, and I’ve always been more of a Sony girl anyway. Sorry Microsoft, you put me out of the game for the last time. Screw me over once shame on you, screw me over four times……..

Gaming in the mall - trito

Some weeks ago I was in Skellefteå, a town in the north part of Sweden, where DreamHack arranged LAN and ESWC pre qualifier. Now it’s time to pack the bags again and go to the next gaming event. Right now DreamHack is having a LAN in the middle of Nordstan, a big mall in central Gothenburg. I will go there over the weekend to film the LAN and the ESWC pre qualifiers in CS and WC3.

DreamHack Skellefteå movie - trito

Some weeks ago I attended DreamHack Skellefteå to make a video about the LAN and the ESWC pre qualifier for CounterStrike. The video was shown yesterday in GamePlay on channel TV7. You can watch the video if you head over to their website (it’s all in Swedish though):

Super fun flash game - trito

I’ve found a really addictive shockwave game called Fuse Moshbox. Colored cubes are coming in from the sides, stopping in the middle when they hit something. Your job is to connect cubes of the same color with each other to make them disappear. When the screen is filled up with blocks it is game over. You have to connect at least three blocks at once, but the more you get in the same connection the higher score. There are also power blocks, they can be both good and bad. Give it a try. My high score right now is 423 060.

Update: My new highscore is 1 312 960
